Almost as full season has passed since we had anything really to talk about when it comes to the Canadian Nippon team; not true as we simply have been to busy to actually mention the changes that have happened at the team in the past season.
As mentioned in the last article Canadian Nippon had trimmed their roster from nineteen riders down to fifteen riders and would continue the trend as they added more overall potential to their roster in the past season and even as late as this past week.
Quick breakdown of the changes from the last article:
Conan Guillot training has been completed with TT center making him an impressive 221 TTer with a specialization in Prologue and lead-out sprinter. With a majority of his results coming in big tours as he finished second overall in Giro di Sicilia, Won the youth Classification and won the first stage. He then followed that up with prologue wins at Volta da Lagoa dos Patos (which starts again tomorrow) and the Race of the Minutemen. Canadian Nippon are hopefully that he can start adding some more TT results to his list as he has only claimed two so far in his career. His success with be determined by the teams ability to get him into Tours that he can prove his ability but the team missed a lot of the Tours last season and this is reflected in his lack of results.
Frederick Pattison has finally maxed and has turned into a sleeper of an TT rider boasting skill sets in hill, sprint, flats and TT but the lack of technique might hold this rider back; not to mention the teams need to find $60.000 for TT center to provide the rider a better chance to claim results. That being said he has collected at least one TT result to his name every season since training has started on the Canadian rider so if the team can get him TT center a few more results might swing the Canadian way.
Quentin Worthen won the battle for the Lead-out sprinting role with Mano Cardenas being released within a few days of the last article while Charles De Weert days just ended a few days ago due to a massive transfer and Cornelis Van de Velde is still currently on the roster even though he seems to lost the out to the younger Canadian sprinter.
Ulf Horn was also released from the team for the third time in the past week due to the massive transfer that sees a new Canadian TTer join the roster.
Chung Cong Nhanh was a failed TT project as he maxed too early with TQ and TT only trained meaning he became expendable when other TT riders became available to replace him.
Team has since added André Due an 227 potential TTer to the roster and Abel Frint a massive 247 potential TTer to roster. With team still considering future moves on at least two other riders to bring the roster back up from twelve at it lowest this season back to fifteen riders where they started the season.
“We are super happy to two new TTer riders join the roster as we seem to be spinning our gears as we try to get a full TT team up and running with a lot of focus being spent in this area right now” Commented the team manager Robert Bouchard when asked about the teams changes. “We seem to be going from project to project but never really getting either the training results that we want or not getting them fully completed.”
“We switched focus last season to develop our TT team; which seen a reduction of riders and fast forward to today and we still only have two TT rider ready; which was the same as last season.” Added Bouchard.
“Project riders at the moment include: Guido Ritzenbergen, Huberto Bugeja, Andre Due and Abel Frint; not to mention we have to decide on Cornelis Van de Velde sooner or later” continued the manager further adding,” We need at least two out of the four TT riders to actually work but in the end I would hope that all four of them turn out to be good riders for the team in the next year or two as we have wasted so much time and effort on this TT team already.”
Projected Projects:
Abel Frint due to his great potential to dominate TT events if he maxes anywhere close to his potential.
Andre Due continued training in TT but less pressing due to his age compared to Guido and Huberto but I think potential wins out here more then need via ages at the moment.
Looking to add riders in different lead-out positions due to the fact that we are using too many of our TT riders and other sprinters as team mates a bit too often so watch for selective transfer to include a seventh TT rider to take the role as LO#1 and a further addition of an LO#2 if we can find a Technique rider to aid the sprint team more moving forward.
Expect training Projects to take the priority as they will add more immediate strength rather then new riders that need to be trained that weaken the current roster as it spreads the cash thin on projects causing a back jam.
Expect younger riders in transfers since they can be placed on the back burner for a few seasons before they are required to be trained.
Again the team is looking at establishing an TT team to aid the Sprint team that has been established already for the past few season so the core roster should be stable over then next few years.
Don’t expect the team to look to add an riders outside of either sprinter or TT riders at the moment as the team doesn’t have the cash flow or space for such project yet.

Guillot is a great rider that I completely lucked into as he simple just continued training much beyond what I expected of him and if I remember correctly he started as a 21yr old making it that much more profitable for the team. 2nd again today in another prologue so we see what happens here.
Sprint plan is straight forward at the moment with Borris captain of all the hill sprints, Watts Capt
Great you are diversifying and hope you dont have to kill much of your darlings. The Guillot-guy will win a record amount of prologues if he continues like this!!
Had personally hoped to read a bit more on your sprintplans :)
